FEV1 is the volume of air that can forcibly be blown out in one second, after full inspiration. Average values for FEV1 in healthy people depend on age, gender, height, mass, ethnicity as well as the research study that they are based on.

If you are male with a height of 180 cm, the normal values are from 4,62 (20 years old) down to 3,52 (70 years old).

Predicted normal values for FEV1 can be calculated online. Values of between 80% and 120% of the average value are considered normal.

The Peak expiratory flow (PEF) is the maximal flow (or speed) achieved during the maximally forced expiration initiated at full inspiration, measured in liters per minute or in liters per second. The normal PEF values are depending on gender and age. At 180 cm of height a 35 year old Male 35 has a PEF around 11 liters/s and if 70 years old around 9 liters/s.
